EcuPulse Privacy Policy

EFFECTIVE DATE · AUGUST 29, 2026
APPLIES TO · ECUPULSE FOR ANDROID, VERSION 2.0.0 (GOOGLE PLAY RELEASE)

EcuPulse is a datalogging and diagnostics app for Subaru vehicles. It reads telemetry from your car through an OBD adapter and shows it, records it, and analyzes it — entirely on your phone or tablet. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app touches and what it does not.

The short version: EcuPulse does not collect your data. Nothing you record leaves your device unless you choose to export or share it yourself. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers operated by us.

WHAT WE COLLECT

Nothing is sent to us. We do not operate a backend, we do not have user accounts, and we cannot see your vehicle data, your location, your recordings, or how you use the app.

Everything EcuPulse produces stays on your device:

None of this is transmitted off the device by EcuPulse.

PERMISSIONS AND WHY WE ASK FOR THEM

EcuPulse requests only the permissions it needs to talk to your OBD adapter and to run the optional camera/voice features. Each one is used for the stated purpose and nothing else.

NEARBY DEVICES / BLUETOOTH · BLUETOOTH_CONNECT To connect to your paired OBD adapter (for example an OBDLink MX+). Bluetooth is used solely for the vehicle adapter, and only with adapters you have already paired in Android's Bluetooth settings — EcuPulse does not scan for devices and does not request any Bluetooth scanning permission.
MICROPHONE · RECORD_AUDIO Used for two things, both optional and both under your control. (1) Hands-free voice commands (for example "start log", "mark", "silence"), if you turn them on: speech is processed entirely on-device by your device's own on-device speech recognizer — EcuPulse never uses cloud speech recognition, never stores this audio, and never transmits it (on devices without an on-device recognizer, voice control simply stays off). (2) Sound in your own track videos: when the VIDEO screen's "REC AUDIO" toggle is on (it is on by default and yours to turn off), recordings you make include microphone audio in the video file saved to your own gallery — stored only there, never transmitted. If you never enable voice commands and never record video, the microphone is never used.
CAMERA · CAMERA Used only when you start the optional track-video feature, which records driving video with a telemetry overlay. The camera is never used in the background and never without you starting a recording.
LOCATION · ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION Used only while a performance-timer run you started is in progress, to cross-check the ECU's wheel speed against GPS speed and stamp the run's slope — the honesty check behind a VERIFIED timeslip. Asked in context the first time you use the timers, and optional: without it, runs simply save as ECU-TIMED · UNVERIFIED. GPS is never read in the background — if the app leaves the screen mid-run, GPS stops immediately and the run saves as UNVERIFIED. Your coordinates and route are not saved and not transmitted — only the derived numbers (speed agreement, slope) are kept on the saved run.
NOTIFICATIONS · POST_NOTIFICATIONS To show the ongoing notification for background logging (Android requires a visible notification while a logging session keeps running with the screen off).
CONNECTED-DEVICE FOREGROUND SERVICE · FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_CONNECTED_DEVICE To keep a logging session alive while it is streaming from your connected adapter with the app in the background.

Location is optional and used only during performance-timer runs. EcuPulse never reads GPS in the background, never saves your coordinates or route, and never transmits location. The app requests no Bluetooth scanning permission at all, so Bluetooth can never be used to derive your location either.

DATA STORAGE AND DELETION

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

EcuPulse uses no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or cloud services. There are no third-party SDKs collecting data from you inside this app.

The only external devices EcuPulse talks to are your OBD adapter and, if you use the companion, your own watch — phone and watch sync directly with each other, not over the internet.

CRASH REPORTS FROM GOOGLE PLAY

EcuPulse contains no crash-reporting SDK. If the app crashes, Google Play may share aggregate crash diagnostics with us (device model, Android version, a technical stack trace). That reporting is part of Android, governed by the "Usage & diagnostics" setting on your device, and it never includes your vehicle data, logs, or files.

IF YOU EMAIL US

If you contact support@ecupulse.com, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to attach (screenshots, exported logs). We use them only to investigate and reply, keep them only as long as needed to handle your report, never add you to a mailing list, and never share them.

CHILDREN

EcuPulse is a tool for vehicle diagnostics and is not directed at children.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top and post the revised version at the same public URL referenced in the Google Play listing.
